Kyle Loses His First Tooth!

Yesterday Kyle lost his first tooth! It had been loose for a long time, and the grown-up tooth had already fully come in behind it. So, we knew that it was going to happen any day. But still it felt like such shock and excitement when it actually happened! Nate and Ambika (our next door neighbor kids) were over playing in our yard with Kyle, Owen, and Meera. Nate and Kyle started wrestling in the grass and all of a sudden, Kyle’s tooth was out! Kyle was beside himself with complete and total exhilaration! (and Owen was beside himself with complete and total jealousy that Kyle was first to lose a tooth) What a very special day for Ky Ky! It was additionally amazingly special that MorFar was here for it! MorFar spent the weekend with us while he was traveling in our area for work. Although it was a ‘work trip’ for MorFar (he had to attend a big meeting for much of the day on Saturday), these visits are awesome for us all (it is special, and different, to have MorFar come alone for some visits). He was here for all the excitement of Kyle’s tooth– and then he took us out to Carrabba’s for dinner. And then he was here this morning for Kyle to show him what the Tooth Fairy had left in the Tooth Fairy Pillow in exchange for his tooth. The joy and wonder of these moments are so incredible– and never are they lost on me. I am just repeatedly in awe of how joyful and wondrous these moments are for my boys. Kyle wanted to write a note to the Tooth Fairy, so he dictated it to me before going to bed. During the note-writing, he told me that “the Tooth Fairy is going to write back!” He was so sure of this. Then, right before getting into bed, he insisted that we leave his bedroom window open just a crack “so that she can fly in.” He specifically wanted to open the window without a screen in it, because “she is tiny, but not tiny enough to fit through the screen.” It was all so sweet and amazing. I wish I could capture these moments forever and bottle them up for the long journey ahead. I know, I know, virtually every mom feels and says these things— but still, it doesn’t make it any less true for me. I am glad that we at least have this blog to catch a glimmer of it all.

This post was really bittersweet for me to read. My children are 11 and 12, and they each lost their LAST baby tooth this year. Now we have moved on to braces and *gasp* the mysteries of the opposite sex. I know I don’t have to tell you…cherish every second for it is over in the blink of an eye.

Nice!! The tooth fairy has gotten more generous since I last remember! đŸ˜‰ How fun that MorFar got to be there, too. Owen will not be too far behind, I’m guessing.
