‘Twas the Week Before Easter

Posted by | March 28, 2010 | BAMBINOS | 6 Comments

‘Twas the week before Easter,

and all through the house,

all three bambinos were stirring

fast as a mouse.

The egg dye was purchased,

and the white eggs were too,

and soon we’d embark

on that crazy to-do.

The baskets still nuzzled,

in the basement since last year,

but The Bunny’s been busy

so never you fear!

And the J-M kids’ church finery,

chosen with care,

awaits to be worn

on Easter Sunday morn.

The excitement is building,

for egg hunts and such,

and we once again realize

how they love our traditions so very, very much.

They believe,

oh how they believe!

for them it is all real–

and times like this remind me

that having young kids is such a great deal!

They keep us grounded

more than we could have imagined they would

and they make us grow higher

than we’d ever dream that we could.

So we’ll work even harder than usual

to savor these days

of this week before Easter

despite all the craze

Because the focus is simple– at least to our three–

Its about new life and living

Its about the “we” more than the “me”~~~

P.S. The Easter Egg, by Jan Brett, is a new book for us this season.

We (all five of us) highly recommend it!

Jan Brett's books are the best!! I haven't seen this one yet (it is now on my list for my Easter-loving and holiday-loving girls), but I love how her drawings predict what will happen on the next page.

My kids keep asking when we are going to take the plastic Easter eggs out so they can play with them. They love to take them apart and hide them and put them in their Easter baskets.

I wasn't going to do it – what a mess they make – but your poem has me reconsidering and I just may take those eggs out today!

It is a tradition and it is exciting!

This post reminds me I have to get my act together… egg dyes have been bought, but no eggs to color as of yet :-)
