2010 Easter Egg Decorating

Always, always, an event like no other! (click here for years prior) But I must admit that this year felt very tame compared to years past. My boys are growing up. I suppose that they are– in some ways– beginning (just beginning) to mellow out a bit. The yearly Easter Egg Decorating Event is sort of an annual reminder of just how far we’ve come. However, I still cannot imagine a time when K & O won’t have egg dye on their hands for at least a few days around Easter. Not sure they will ever be able to resist the urge to stick their entire hands into the egg dye cups. Meera, on the other hand, wanted nothing to do with egg dye. She devoted all of her energies exclusively to getting Braydon to stick the tiny Easter stickers (that came with the egg dye kit) all over her. In the end, we had 13 awesome and beautiful eggs (out of the 18 white ones we began with; i.e., only 5 were completely cracked/crushed/crumbled during the egg dye process).  We’re declaring Easter Egg Decorating 2010 a massive success!

Meera's expression is almost a carbon copy of the look on Braydon's face!

I sent my 4 year old to preschool with VERY green hands yesterday :-) He was very proud of his egg decorating skills!

I always want to do this with the kids, but the thought of all that food waste bothers me. What does one do with all that egg?

We dye raw eggs… and then make french toast and scrambled eggs on Easter morning. (And the next weekend too!) There are usually a couple of casualties during the decorating process but so far (knock on wood) they have only ever been dropped on the table, so still salvageable.
