Blast from the Past

Potty training twin boys. It wasn’t easy. I’ll tell you that. This photo was taken just over four years ago. They were barely 2 years old. Approximately the same age that Meera is now. It took them a full year after this photo was taken to fully be actually potty trained. They were tough little cookies — the opposite of their sister. But man, oh man!, were they ever cute. I so wish I could freeze-frame time. I can’t believe they are about to turn six. And yet, I can’t not live in daily awareness of it — since they (Kyle, in particular), every morning, count down the days on the calendar until their big day. May 8. May 8 my babies will be six years old. Six seems so much older than five. And soooo much older than two. I cling to the little things– that they still love those lovies (the same ones in the photo above) like there is no tomorrow; they still look at books while they’re on the potty (albeit the real toilet, and Red Sox magazines as opposed to board books); and they still ask us to wipe their butts pretty regularly. We don’t complain. We know our ‘little-kid’ days are numbered with them. We’ll take anything we can get in order to draw these days out as long as possible. Because in so many, many ways they are already little Men. But they will — forever — be my baby boys. The cutest boys there ever were. The cutest little things under the sun. My babies. Forever.
