Easter Eggs With Margie

This afternoon, after the boys got home from school, Margie undertook a big project with the three bambinos: Rice Crispy Treats made into the shape of Easter Eggs and then dipped in chocolate and sprinkles. I had never heard of this idea, but what a great idea it is! I give Margie a ton of credit for even considering an undertaking such as this. It turned out that the boys had a ton of fun making these. Margie said that they loved rolling the sticky marshmellowy rice crispy globs in their hands and molding them into “eggs,” dunking them into the chocolate, etc., etc., etc. (I can just imagine.) The funny thing is that they really are not too keen on actually eating sweets. So, the fun for them is all in the making of them. Margie said that when all was said and done Owen ate a half of one and Kyle ate none. Meera… on the other hand…. loves sweets. Particularly chocolate. In typical Meera fashion she had no interest in making them, but a lot of interest in eating them. By the time I got home from work Meera was covered in chocolate and she was already making her way through her second rice crispy treat easter egg. She was running around the yard like a little maniac holding a half-eaten handful of globby chocolatey glop up to her mouth and squealing “choc! choc! choc!” (‘chocolate’) The globby thing had pieces of grass stuck to it, dirt mashed into it, and who-knows-what-else. When we went inside Meera’s sugar high quickly deteriorated into a mega-sugar-low as she crashed big-time into a hysteric meltdowny mess for no apparent reason whatsoever (other than the obvious: I don’t think she had ever in her lifetime consumed that much refined sugar in one fell swoop).

I fed her a bottle of cold milk (to try to offset the sugar!), stripped her down, cleaned her up, and tried to stabilize the poor little thing. Don’t worry… soon enough she was just fine, playing on the floor with some trucks, but it was a very early bedtime for Little Miss tonight.

Those look really yummy! I might try those out with my little cousin. I'm a chocolate/sweet lover just like Meera so I can sympathize ;). All that sugar is so good until you crash!

What an amazing laugh/"Aww!" reaction I had to Meera's crying face — she looks just like my Emily (and probably all babies) in meltdown mode! Except I don't think I have a single picture of it. I'm glad you do!

HOW do you keep your house so clean? Your floor is positively gleaming in that last picture (and in all the others, when I scanned back up to check); other than a quick toy pick-up, your house looks perfect. What kinds of responsibilities do your kids have toward keeping it that way? Which adults do what, cleaning-wise, and when? And what do you do with all the kids' "creations"? Emily's room isn't big enough for all the art work she produces every day!

Please tell your boys that the eggs look delicious! :)

Ohhhh! That is such a great photo. The sugar CRASH. Poor babe. I bet the treats were worth the crash though!
