K & O’s 6th Birthday End of Bed Presents

5:43 a.m. May 8, 2010. My boys have the whole house up-and-going, and they are opening their end-of-bed-presents. Never in my life did I imagine that Braydon and I would be giving our children “toy soldiers” (in quotes because Kyle actually insists that we all refer to them as “model knights”)… but, here we are. They are obsessed with Alexander Nevsky (the music and the story — as told by their Papi; they don’t even know that a film exists), Teutonic Knights, the Russians vs. the Germans, etc., etc., etc.  Seriously obsessed. And this has been going on for well over a year now. So, today, for their sixth birthday, much to their utter surprise (they had not asked for anything in particular for their birthday present), they got toys to let their imaginations run wild. It was a beautiful sight to see them play and play and play today with their 6th Birthday End of Bed Presents. Owen is also currently obsessed with magic. So they got a few “magic coins” too— much to the delight of our Owen. At one point this morning, while Owen was performing magic coin tricks for his Papi, Kyle soaked up his “model knights.” Sitting in his bedroom watching him play, he said to me, “Mommy, I just love to stare at them! This is the most perfect birthday present ever!” What a special day. For us all.

I love reading about this tradition every year. I may copy and steal a version of it for our little family… :-)

Are those Papo knights??? Oh my, Colin is really going to be in love with K & O now. They not only share Haiti, and (nearly) a birthday (June 2004), AND adoption, but the Papo knights!

Happy Birthday Kyle. Happy Birthday Owen.
