A Dozen Photos from Five Minutes of the First Day of Summer

Posted by | June 26, 2012 | Uncategorized | 4 Comments

Yesterday was our first day of “regular summer” — i.e., no basketball camp, no ballet show week, no family beach vacation… just all three kids, at home, for the summer. I am a big believer in kids hanging out at home, without too much structure, with plenty of time to get ‘bored’ (otherwise known as creative), and lots of sun and fresh air. We’ve always hired a babysitter for the summer to facilitate this kind of summer our kids. And while we definitely have some big things planned for the summer of 2012, I am hopeful that there will be plenty of time in between for the bambinos to decompress and let summer soak deep into their souls.

Our 2012 summer babysitter is Shelby, a 15-year-old kid from our neighborhood, who Kyle and Owen and Meera adore. Yesterday was her first day, and all reports were that it was “awesome!” Yesterday was also the first “Calvin Swimming Lesson” of the 2012 season and, of course, that went swimmingly! đŸ˜‰ This is Calvin’s 5th (!!!) summer of swim lessons with the J-Ms. Now, that is an incredible commitment to my kids (he drives out to us from NYC for this!) — it amazes me every time I think of it.

Anyway… when the swim lesson was ending, Owen ran up to the house and asked me if he could take some pictures with the camera. I said yes (we are just starting to dabble in letting K & O use our camera a tiny bit). 5 minutes later I got the camera back from him and found that he had taken 57 pictures. The following dozen as my favorites of Owen’s photos from five minutes of the first day of summer:
