CJ was picked #10 in the 2013 NBA Draft tonight.

It was the first time that any of the J-Ms had ever watched the draft. The anticipation and excitement was very, very high. And the thrill when his name was called was pretty awesome. If you had told me ten years ago that I’d be watching the 2013 NBA Draft, on the edge of my seat, excited beyond belief, I would have told you that you were absolutely nuts. But kids change us (our own kids, and our “kids”/students/etc.). We are transformed by them as much as they are transformed by us.

It was a good night to be a J-M bambino! Sometimes it is pretty cool to be a professor’s kid! (Not most of the time… but sometimes.)

What great fun! Two questions: Does LeHigh require you go leave for summer? How is Brayden able to work remotely?

      Thanks for reading Renee!
      1. When we had been thinking of living on campus, Braydon and I discussed in depth that we would want to leave for the summer. The point of being there is the experience of a dynamic community– we knew we’d hate being there when it was deserted (which, it turns out, we more-or-less do). When we agreed to live on campus we originally agreed to leave (it was required), and that was fine with us, because we already planned to do that. The reason we were required to leave was because the Philadelphia Eagles (football team) would use Sayre Village (the dorms we live in) for their summer training camp. So, we planned to go away for the bulk of the summer. Then, this spring, the Eagles backed out of their contract. They are not staying at Lehigh this summer. So, we could have stayed. But we already had the plans and had paid for the beach house. We also did not want to stay regardless. So, here we are.
      2. We had to make sure — when choosing a house to rent — that it had very stable and high-speed wireless internet… so that Braydon could work remotely (and me too). Braydon is planning to work for most of the time we are here. He cannot take much time off (from the company he owns/runs — RVibe — http://www.rvibe.com/). We are hoping he doesn’t have to travel for work trips, but if he does, he can fly relatively easily out of Charleston (which was another consideration for us… we needed a place where he could get to/from if need be, and also a place that I’d feel comfortable being alone with the kids if he has to leave). I plan to work as little as humanly possible— but I can never actually be 100% “off,” and am always working on something. We are lucky to have really flexible jobs. But, believe me: most nights we are up working at our laptops LONG after the kids are asleep. We are often working until 11 or 12 at night– whether we are at home or away.
Thanks for your questions, and thanks for reading!
