Love Her.

a love her

Meera. Gosh do I ever love her. This girl is nothing like anything I ever would have imagined to come from me. In an unexpected twist, my only biological child is the one who challenges all of my preconceived notions of nature vs. nurture; she’s so much more dissimilar from me than her adopted brothers have ever been. This girl is full of grace, twirl, sparkle, and pink; she’s entirely centered in who she is, and has been that way from the start; happiest at home coloring or painting, surrounded by her little family; no need to be top of her class or “best” at anything… it is remarkably stellar the person that she is. I stand back and watch, and am overwhelmed by admiration for her, and by relief for the path that she’s on. I adore every part of her, respect her, and am awed by her. She has fundamentally challenged me more than any other person on this planet. Somehow I got matched with the most perfect daughter for me.

I’m struck after reading the three entries by your seeming surprise at how you believe you “got matched to these kids” (almost like an odd twist of fate). You describe each personality as though each developed independent of the family constellation and how fortunate you were to found these kids or how they found you (metaphorically). Family dynamics are so strong I am never surprised by the personalities I see. They really represent a larger web and while each seems unique, the personalities of kids, including their interests and talents, reflect what is prized, supported, acknowledged, and just plain enjoyed. Even kids who defy a parent and “become something unexpected” really have been strong influenced by family dynamics. Kids learn from one another as siblings and they learn from their parents. The perfect match did not just happen; it was cultivated. That is the part of studying families that I find so interesting.

I love how you are writing these posts, Heather! I understand what you mean about the last line as a term of deep love and admiration for our children and your relationship for them. Go Meera!!! She sounds like a wonderfully strong independant girl, surely with role models like yourself and MorMor! I love this photo too, twirling – such joy and self confidence, loving life,(great fashion sense!) somehow I can see her personalilty through your words and this photo! Well done Heather, you are an awesome Mum!

Love the way you honor all three of your children in these posts; if only every parent would appreciate each of their children’s positive aspects, and unique personalities! I have been reading your blog for several years now, and continue to be amazed at how your family has grown, along with your relationship and dynamic with each member. Job well done!
